WD boots from flashcard, USB and net is working fine. So far everything seems to work fine except for the onboard sound chip. Recompiled the kernel for OSS support and manufacturer supplied linux-driver. Kernel is fine but the drivers is not doing its job. So I thought of ALSA, but ran into several problems. Fixed a few(glibc 2.3.4, od, etc.) but compilation still fails. Anyone out there who managed to compile ALSA on WD ?? I am selecting the min size option durig install, and do only select PPP as an optional package. I select the 586 version of the kernel , Booting from IDE. Just after install is completed, I reboot and log on. The size used of the IDE flash disc is 26 MB just after installation. Tthe /tmp area is filled with some upx**** files as well. Totally I have 32MB available, investigated by the 'df' utility. According to information from www.blast.com,whitdwarf linux should fit within as less as 13MB. How can I reduce the size of my installation. In fact I am running the system as an embedded Black-Box, and do not need support for Irda, WLAN and all those kind of supported features in the kernel.. Networking, ssh, serialports are basic options I have to keep. Should I reconfigure and rebuild the kernel on a separate system using devtools?
