I've got a MOPSlcdGX1 board to be used for controlling a solar plant in a possibly remote location, so network connection to other systems cannot be considered an option. So the most solid option I can think of right now is to put all variable (rw) filesystems into RAMDISK, mount the others, e.g. /usr ro, and write back the portions in RAMDISK to FLASH when shutting down. Of course I might loose data in case of sudden power loss and some modifications are required after identifying and separating fs locations that get written to and those that are not. Having read about JFFS2 being log structured and spreading the writes evenly across the FLASH cells this might also be an option. Generally in this project I do not have larger amounts of e.g. measurement data to store in FLASH, It's just that I fear the system writes into certain FLASH locations I am not aware of regularly and I end up with a defect system while it is running remotely. I was unable to complete the install in the 32meg flash. I tried several things, including eliminating a swap partition and skipping the install of the optional packages. I think I ran out of space after selecting the 586 ide kernel. The last message from the install is: not found, DHCP disabled Please insert WD2.10 CDROM or root disk and press return I finaly put a harddrive on it, and the install completes ok and the system comes up. Also on page 4 of the manual it says there is a 16/32/64/128MB IDE compatible Flash Hard disk, is this true, can we get a bigger flash? Thanks!
