They held methanol originally. two 55 gal drums in fair condition. One of these has a removable lid, nice for picking up grease. two 300 L totes I have some other stuff I could also part with, like hand drum pumps and racor fuel filters. I would like to get $5 per drum for the new ones, to cover my cost. Otherwise, just make an offer for the other stuff. It's at a lab at NC State. I also have maybe three barrels of glycerin and mixed biodiesel wastes that I need to get rid of. If you can remove and compost these, I'm happy to trade. Biodiesel producers applaud the proposal, saying the measure would help their industry. Sens. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) introduced the legislation in an effort to provide predictability to investors and producers as the nation works to replace the use of imported fossil fuels with renewable ones, they said. "For economic reasons, national security reasons and environmental reasons, we cannot allow ourselves to remain dependent on foreign oil," Cantwell said in a statement. "Biodiesel is an extremely efficient fuel that helps reduce America's dependence on foreign oil and can play a constructive role in addressing the issue of climate change. In order to provide this important industry with certainty and predictability, Congress must act quickly to extend and reform this valuable tax credit." The measure would extend the existing $1-per-gallon biodiesel blending credit for five more years and would modify it to eliminate potential abuses and simplify its administration. The legislation would change the incentive from a blender credit to a production tax credit to build incentives for development of a domestic production industry. The move would end a controversial practice known as "splash and dash," which involves oil companies adding a few drops of biodiesel to petroleum diesel so it qualifies for the tax credit. It would also change the definition of biodiesel to include any biomass-based feedstock or recycled oils and fats. The bill would increase the tax credit for small producers, who generate less than 60 million gallons a year, from $1 to $1.10 for the first 15 million gallons of biodiesel produced each year. And it would simplify the coordination between the income tax credit and the excise tax liability to tighten compliance and reduce administrative burdens on taxpayers. "The more we can encourage domestic production and meet demand, the better off we'll be economically, environmentally and geopolitically," Grassley said in a statement. "This legislation simplifies the tax credit for producers. It also gives investors predictability so they'll be more likely to put their money into biodiesel production." Biodiesel producers say they are pleased by the proposed policy changes. "The passage of this bill is critical to the long-term health of our industry," said John Plaza, CEO of Washington-based Imperium Renewables, in an e-mailed statement. "The extension of the tax credit for five years instead of the traditional one year will build long-term confidence along the entire biodiesel value chain -- from growers, to producers, blenders and petroleum companies. It also sends a strong message to investors and entrepreneurs that the government is committed to growing the market, which will foster increased capital and innovation." Plaza added that the legislation would also level the playing field with the petroleum industry, "which has enjoyed, and continues to enjoy, annually billions of dollars of incentives, tax and royalty relief and access to federal lands and offshore sites for drilling." ~ ~ ~ John Bonitz, Farm Outreach & Policy Advocate Southern Alliance for Clean Energy PO Box 1833, Pittsboro, NC 27312 Phone: 919-360-2492 Email: bonitz at cleanenergy.org Web: http://www.cleanenergy.org From bonitz at cleanenergy.org Thu Aug 20 13:46:32 2009 From: bonitz at cleanenergy.org (John Bonitz) Date: Thu, 20 Aug 2009 13:46:32 -0400 Subject: [Biofuels_Interest_Group] Biodiesel Comprehensive Workshop October 26-30th In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Posted on behalf of Tami Schwerin: Subject:?Biodiesel Comprehensive Workshop October 26-30th Biodiesel Comprehensive Workshop brought to you by Piedmont Biofuels, CCCC and The Abundance Foundation: >From humble beginnings as a biodiesel co-op to commercial biodiesel production, Piedmont Biofuels has first hand experience with all scales of sustainable biodiesel production. ?They are the smallest BQ9000 certified producer in the world recognized nationally as fuel quality experts and internationally for their biodiesel education programs. ?Come experience life in a local economy and spend 5 days learning about production, plant design, methanol recovery and glycerin refining, fuel quality testing, regulatory and safety, and the fundamentals of the biodiesel business. ?Let Piedmont Biofuels usher you into a low-carbon future! $650 Pre-registration by August 30th For more information: http://theabundancefoundation.org/biodiesel-workshop -- Tami Schwerin tami.schwerin at gmail.com 919-444-9300 http://www.theabundancefoundation.org local food~renewable energy~community From kevin at larrysbeans.com Fri Aug 21 10:58:41 2009 From: kevin at larrysbeans.com (Kevin Bobal) Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2009 10:58:41 -0400 Subject: [Biofuels_Interest_Group] Veggie Step Van For Sale! We?ll see them next year at the earliest, it seems. The first biofuels produced using new-generation biomass raw materials could be available in commercial volumes in 2010, German junior Environment Michael Mueller recently said. But the timing is all a bit vague apparently, and the start of production has been postponed many times already, the first target having been 2007. Germany is busy building test plants to produce commercial volumes of second-generation biofuels from biomass materials like wood chips, hay, vegetable waste and low-grade crops. So-called first-generation biofuels are made from food crops such as grain, rapeseed oil and palm oil. Two months ago Germany cut the compulsory level of biofuels to be blended into fossil fuels this year to 5.25% from the 6.25% originally intended. The country?s biodiesel industry, Europe's largest, is presently working at about 60% of its capacity and wants the blending cut to be stopped. It won?t be raised until gen-two biofuels are on stream, according to Reuters. Giovanni Federigo De Santi, director of the energy institute at the European Union Commission's Joint Research Center, said, "We want to develop second generation biofuels which move away from competition from food and animal feed." But with so much complex technology still to be developed, Santi said he didn?t believe new generation biofuels could be fully ready for transportation uses for another 10 years. ____________________________________________________________ Best Weight Loss Program - Click Here! http://thirdpartyoffers.netzero.net/TGL2241/fc/BLSrjpYSwrFK2O8XfBxFOeotkO4feaq0JmTRwGOV2G25BSuWkRfjVIc3pOw/
